Speed Download has a self-updating mechanism built into it that automates this whole process for you. When SD detects that there is a new version available (you need to have enabled 'Check for updates' in the preferences), a window will appear listing all that is new. On that window is a single button that will download and install the new version for you.
Please read all the information presented in the notification window that appears so that you understand in full what it is you are agreeing to downloading and installing.
If you prefer to update SD manually, you can do that as well. Simply follow the steps below after having downloaded the latest version from our website.
- You do not have to run the SD Un-installer first in order to update to a new version of Speed Download.
- Quit Speed Download 5 if it's running.
- Quit all browsers.
- Once you have downloaded the new version of Speed Download, unstuff it and mount the new Speed Download image on your desktop.
- Drag the entire Speed Download folder from the image on your desktop and into your 'Applications' folder.
- When prompted if you want to replace the folder by the one you are dragging, say 'Yes'.
- Go into the new Speed Download folder (now in your Applications folder) and double-click on the Speed Download application to launch it.
- That's it.
- You do not have to re-enter your registration info if you are already registered.
