Temporarily disable Speed Download
Safari users:
You can easily turn Speed Download 5 ON and OFF, or automatically bypass Speed Download for certain sites.
- Right click (control-click) anywhere on Safari page, and select ‘Disable Speed Download’. This action happens immediately; you do not have to restart Safari. (To enable SD again, simply right click and select ‘Enable Speed Download’); or
- Simply go into the SD 5 preferences, and into the ‘Safari Integration’ section:
- Once in there, you can check ‘Completely disable browser plug-in in Safari’. This will do exactly that. Or, you can add the specific server you are having issues with, in which case,
- Safari’s default download manager will attempt to download the file for you.
- These settings take effect right away. There is no need to quit or restart Safari.
If you’re not using Safari:
Because Speed Download uses a plug-in that’s loaded each time your browser is launched, the browser needs to be quit and relaunched each time you want to enable/disable any plug-in.
- You can temporarily workaround Speed Download by right-clicking on the URL in question and select ‘Download Link to Disk’; (Note: this command might vary depending on the browser you are using. )
- or go into the ‘Plug-ins’ section of the SD preferences and manually uncheck all the ‘File types to be handled by Speed Download and ‘Save’.
- Quit and relaunch your browser.
- When you want to re-enable Speed Download, simply go back to the ‘Plug-ins’ preference and click on ‘Defaults for this Section’ and then ‘Save’.
- Quit and relaunch your browser.
